A new digital mapping platform named SouthMaps has been launched by Environment Southland this month. This innovative online resource aggregates public data from all four councils in the Southland region and Great South, making it easier for residents to access vital information.
SouthMaps provides users with current details regarding property, environmental data, development planning, cemetery searches, and waste collection services. According to Jane Carroll, the information and technology services manager at Environment Southland, this platform enhances customers” ability to obtain valuable information. “By combining key data from across the region, we”ve given Southlanders a one-stop-shop for everything from property information to environmental planning. It”s a huge step forward in making council data more accessible and useful for our communities,” Carroll stated.
Utilizing advanced Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, SouthMaps marks a significant improvement over the previous mapping tool, Beacon. The new platform boasts enhanced functionality, improved accuracy, and a more intuitive interface for users. Carroll emphasized, “SouthMaps helps people make smarter, more informed decisions. By improving access to spatial data and making it easier to use, we”re helping communities harness the power of location-based insights — and we”re excited to keep building on this foundation.”
