The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a significant enhancement to its Aadhaar update system, aimed at providing greater digital convenience for Aadhaar cardholders. Starting Saturday, the new reforms will enable users to update essential information such as their name, address, date of birth, and mobile number entirely online through the UIDAI portal, eliminating the need for in-person visits to enrollment centers.
Under this updated system, the information submitted by the cardholders will be verified digitally using linked government documents, including PAN cards, passports, driving licenses, or ration cards. This method will ensure both accuracy and efficiency in the updating process. Furthermore, the government has set a deadline for linking Aadhaar with PAN cards, which must be completed by December 31, 2025. PAN cards that remain unlinked will be deactivated starting January 1, 2026. New applicants for PAN will also be required to complete an Aadhaar-based verification as part of their application.
In addition, UIDAI has simplified the digital Know Your Customer (KYC) process for banks and financial institutions. Users can now verify their identity through options such as video KYC, Aadhaar OTP-based authentication, or optional in-person verification.
The UIDAI has also introduced a revised service fee structure that will take effect on November 1. According to the new pricing, Aadhaar reprints will cost Rs 40, while a biometric update will incur a fee of Rs 125. Updating demographic information will cost Rs 75. Additionally, home enrollment services will be priced at Rs 700 for the first applicant and Rs 350 for each subsequent individual at the same address.
These digital-first reforms are designed to enhance the security and accessibility of Aadhaar services, allowing citizens to manage their identity records from the comfort of their homes. Previously, any necessary corrections or updates required a visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra, but the new system streamlines the entire process through the UIDAI portal.
